(Click on pictures to enlarge them)

It’s been another great year where we raised a brilliant amount for local charities (over £7000)….a big thank you to The Withens Lane Social Club (which was The British Legion) for the use of the premises…and the bar….to the loyal crowd who turn up every week in all weathers…Brenda and Irene who take care of the door and the draw….and Phil Moy who looks after the donations… and the great bunch of musicians who give their time and talents free of charge……Don…Derek…Andy…Frank…Tony…Gerry…Pete….Nick…Eric… Stevie and Eddie….not forgetting the input from Tony Cavanagh earlier in the year…..you guys are the ones who make it work……well done everyone have a great Christmas and New Year……..

The Christmas party was  a big success as always….a full house….it would be nice to see a few of those new faces at our regular Wednesday jam sessions where you will find there is more to rock and roll other than a buffet…….

See you all again on the 9th of January when we’ll do it all again (there may be a free buffet……then again there may not)…..rock on !!!!!!!

21st November………..it was a cold night….but NOT when the music kicked in…..we were a bit short handed muso-wise ….Texas Tony…Stevie Davies…Pete Steel and Rockin’ Eddie were absent…..a note from each of them will be expected next week…..so it was up to Frankie Jay to start the night with Deggsy…Gerry and Andy….with the noticeable absence of Don who was dismissed from the band….he now has to join Steve…Eric…and Pete who have all been subject to similar dismissals…….

…Don was at loss as to his dismissal…..could have something to do with his behaviour during “Mexicali Rose” last week?

However Don made a comeback in the second set joined by Sir Eric and Andy who got the Church Street Choir into action and Olive and her gang up line dancing (at least that’s what it looked like)…..it was then time for Nick and his Mojos….Eric and Andy to disperse some serious rock and roll..

..

….another great night rounded off by Don…Deggsy and Tony

….Deggsy went round the crowd asking for suggestions as to how HE could be dismissed from the Frankie Big Boy experience.

Great night as always well done everyone….nice amount raised for the cause….see ya next week.

7th November……it was time to rock once again….the regulars turned up with their £1.50s looking for value for money!!…..which they were about to receive BIG TIME!!!

The night was opened up by Frankie “Big Boy” Jay who looked like he was not going to take any prisoners….he even did a bit of yodelling which was interesting to say the least…

….then on to stage jumped Rockin’ Eddie who launched into his rock and roll set as the backing band slowly recovered from backing Frankie……

….then we had the return of jet lagged Stevie Davies…back from Australia….who joined Texas Tony for their country set…..

Nick Crouch and his Mojos then gave it large…with Sir Eric sporting a sly grin after avoiding Frankie’s set….after making some ridiculous excuse for turning up late!!…we are on to you Eric!!!

…the night was rounded off with a selection of Ricky Nelson and Elvis songs by Don,Deggsy and Mike White (our invited guest) who performed with the great James Burton (Guitarist for Elvis and Ricky Nelson among many others) exactly 10 years ago….with Tony supplying the quality drumming…

…photography was by Reg Nagle who proved you don’t need the scholarship or a load of G.C.E.s to click the button on a camera….honestly these secondary modern blokes will do anything to try and get into showbiz.

….once again another great night with a nice amount raised for the cause……see you next week when the guest band will be Dublin Street…..we rock so you don’t have to!!!!!

17th October…..another great night…..the gang were joined by our guest band and good friends The Lackies who gave it large with their selection of rock and roll classics….they were due to bring our loyal supporter John McNally along with them but Jonno has not been too well of late……however he sent along £20 for the fund…..which shows what a great guy he is….get well soon Jonno we are thinking about you.

3rd October……Another classic night featuring Frank…Deggsy…Gerry…Andy…Nick…Eric…Eddie…Tony and Don…..there were a few noticeable absentees in the crowd who missed Deggsy performing “Speedy Gonzalez” in his huge Mexican hat aided and abetted by Olive and her mates plus the effervescent Chrissie who were only to keen to rattle his maracas….it was nice to see the Olive gang who were back from their synchronised swimming display in the River at Egremont….sadly the tide went out half way through their act and they had to be pulled out of the mud by the lifeguards…..this was announced by Don who insisted this was true…….

…then Phil Moy jumped on the stage and did the draw (his weekly attempt at getting into showbiz)………..he then announced our latest donation of £1000 to the Spider-Ede Appeal

This is the thank you letter we received……it concerns a three year old local little girl who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour which can only be treated in Mexico….our donation will go towards the required £7000 required to save this kiddie….the appeal can be checked out on Google….this is what we are all about folks…well done everyone.

26th September…..as always the crowd turned up ready for some serious action….and Frankie “Big Boy” Jay was ready to give them some with his songs from the middle ages…he opened up with Gerry..Deggsy…and Andy

…3 minutes into his set Eric London could be seen peering round the entrance door…

….he strenuously denied hiding outside until Frankie got going….in case he was drafted in to play bass….yeah sure Eric…..

…ask Deggsy what he thought……

…It was then time for The Nick Crouch Orchestra and Chorus featuring Eric (without his coat) …Eddie and Andy

…followed by Texas Tony with Pete and Andy (who was beginning to wane)…and Eric

…another great night rounded off by Deggsy…Tony and Don…still looking as good as they ever did…and they will tell you that themselves if you ask them….even if you don’t they will tell you anyway.

…Well done everyone…a nice amount raised for the cause….see ya next week.

We were delighted to receive a thank you letter from The Seacombe Soccer Centre regarding our donation to The Jack Daley Histio Fund which helps towards histiocytosis which is a rare cancer which develops in children….we also received a photo of young Jack being presented with our cheque……

click on these letters to enlarge them.

….this is why we meet up each week and entertain our great supporters…well done everyone….nice to know we make a difference…….check out the Soccerdome Website…..www.soccerdome.biz

…..a note for your diary….17th October….guest band The Lackies.

5th September…..the cooler weather meant the crowd needed warming up with some red hot rock and roll…and that’s just what they got!!                                                                           Frankie “Big Boy” Jay opened up backed by Gerry,Deggsy and Andy with his selection of songs from another galaxy

…followed by Nick,Eddie,Andy and Sir Eric (who insists his late entry had nothing to do with his unavailability to back Frank…..which didn’t explain why he was hiding behind a car in the car park until he heard Frank start)

….next we had Texas Tony with his country set backed by Pete,Andy and Stevie…

….it was then time for a special presentation….a special A Level G.C.E. certificate…yes an A LEVEL!!…to Ernie Nagle for none stop talking when the bands are on….Don managed to interrupt him for a few seconds to make the presentation…..this makes up for his miserable failure of the 11 plus during the first world war…….

….it was then time for Deggsy,Tony and Don to round off the evening….assisted by the Church Street Choir who have yet to hit the right notes after 60 years….

We were also glad to see Olive and her gang who used to be a Girls Aloud tribute act…

…following their recent holiday we expected a demonstration of Greek dancing but realised there wasn’t enough room for their sideways movement across the floor with their high kicks….we possibly would have had to retrieve them from the adjacent bowling green…….as always a great night….and we’ll do it all again next week…KEEP ROCKIN’ !!!

29th August…..another great night with the gang delivering the goods…..Don…Deggsy and Tony paid a tribute to three of our musicians who have sadly passed away over the last few years….Don played Walk Don’t Run I’m memory of Richie Prescott,,,Deggsy sang Memphis Tennessee in memory of Ian Hunter and Don sang Elevator Rock in memory of Derek Smith (co-founder of the organisation)

Richie Ian and Derek….R.I.P……gone but not forgotten

22nd August….the crowd rolled up looking for action….and it was a case of mix and match with the musicians as we were a few men down (Nick wasn’t too well and Eric was on Royal duties….probably at the Palace) so Frankie Jay opened up with his selection of long forgotten songs backed by Deggsy on bass…Gerry on steel…and Andy on drums….followed by steady Eddie with his selection of classics backed by Don on lead…Steve on bass and Andy on drums….then it was time to get on the road again with Texas Tony backed by Steve on bass…Pete on steel…and Andy still belting out the beat….then it was time for the draw with Phil (trying to get into showbiz) reading out the winners….one of which was roadie Fred who was head boy at his school (what a creep)….the night was rounded off with Don on guitar and vocals..Deggsy on bass and vocals….and Stu (Church Street’s finest) on drums…..a great night as always…do we rock or what !!!

     Don..Deggsy..Stu..Andy and Steve

     Frank..Gerry..Tony..Eddie..and Pete

Well done everyone….see you all next week and we’ll do it all again.

We had pleasure in donating @1000 to the Jack Daley Histio Fund which helps towards research into histiocytosis…a rare cancer which developes in children….we hope this makes a difference as that is why we meet up each week….well done everyone….

1st August….The Danes invaded and we were ready for ’em !!!…..the wonderful Chimbo’s Revival gave us their raw pure rock and roll (complete with kiss curl) as part of their English tour….and they took no prisoners as they played to a packed floor….

….they rounded off another great night ably assisted by the regular gang….

…Don Deggs and Tony…

…Gerry Deggs Frankie and Andy…

Sir Eric…Eddie Andy and Nick….

…Pete Tony Andy and Steve…

…nights don’t get any better and it was a pleasure to have our friends back from overseas..

….you are always welcome fellas….best of luck with your tour….well done everyone…see you all next week…..

11th June…..for those who stayed home to watch the world cup you missed a good night…and had a bad one….Football(ers) Are Coming Home….our loyal supporters made sure the place rocked…Stevie Davies announced the sad loss of his mate Pete Cook who left a donation to Merseycats and Cheshirecats of which he has always been a supporter and was one of the 60s originals.

R.I.P. Cookie….thanks for the music and the kind donation…our thoughts go out to his friends and family.

27th June…….FOR GOODNESS SAKE,,,,WE DID THE HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE !!!!!

We were delighted to welcome our special guest Chan Romero…the guy who WROTE “Hippy Hippy Shake”….which has been played and recorded by so many bands over the years…a rock and roll classic…

…Chan turned up with his MD Mark Guerrero and was backed by local band The Firewheels….

….when the legend got up on stage he was greeted by a full dance floor …and boy did he rock….

…he chatted in the bar beforehand with the regulars about his exploits with so many early  rock and rollers from Jerry Lee to Elvis.

Considering the level he has been at during his lifetime he was the nicest humblest guy you could possibly meet….he was an absolute delight and a pleasure to have met.

If you missed this you missed out.

…next week we have another guest band…”Decades”….all happening..don’t be late.

6th June…..another good night to an enthusiastic crowd of loyal supporters…..opened up by The Frankie “Big Boy” Experience….one not to be forgotten….followed by The Nick Crouch Ensemble…with special guest Eddie….followed by Texas Tony Maher and his cow pokes….rounded off by those mean moody gringos….Stu,Don and Deggsy

…as always well done everyone…especially Brenda on the door and the guys who set the gear up and take it down….and they know who they aren’t….see ya next week….rock on !!!!!

The Cheshire Cats are delighted to announce their latest donation of £2000 to The Liverpool Woman’s Hospital who help provide the care which makes a difference to baby’s lives and their young mothers…

…here are some of the wonderful staff who selflessly put their hearts and souls into caring for others….words are not enough to thank them…and the money will make a difference which is what we are all about….ladies we salute you….you are indeed Earth Angels.

10th May ….Pat is one of our loyal supporters and it was her birthday….she organised a superb buffet and we had a full house…..the regular musos gave it large…

and the guest band…”NoName”… were their usual brilliant selves…a great night with a nice chunk raised for our cause….well done everyone and special thanks to Derek Green who organised the bands….see you all next week.

2nd May…..another good night…despite the Liverpool Roma match…our loyal supporters turned up ready to rock with all the musos on form

Next week we have a guest band…..”NoName”…..don’t be late.

We must give a mention to the guys who set the gear up each week and take it down again at the end of the night…

…Derek..Don..Gerry..Peter..Andy..Eddie and Tony…without their input there wouldn’t be a night….well done lads…the gear doesn’t go up on its own…you are much appreciated.

April 18th….the regular muses were joined by guest band The Lackies

…as always a great set from our mates…always nice to see you lads.

FORTHCOMING ATTRACTIONS

August 1st….CHIMBO’S REVIVAL……The Danish Invasion….a welcome return by our mates from overseas…..ya better be ready to rock !!!

14th and 21st March  2018…..Both well attended nights with the bands in fine form as always…..

7th March 2018…..The excitement mounted as Frankie “Big Boy” Jay took to the stage….but where was Sir Eric his bass player?….his Lordship turned up a bit late to back him so Deggsy stood in (Sir Eric was seen at the bar punching the air)….but the show must go on…..

So Frank began the proceedings with Andy…Deggsy…Gerry…and Don (who stood in to refresh his memory and to face the challenge of Frank’s falsetto numbers…..

…then Nick took to the stage when the screaming had died down….with Sir Eric and Eddie…followed by Texas Tony and Pete for their weekly country set….

…and as always the night was rounded off by Deggsy…Tony and Don which included a trip south of the border down Mexico Way….

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of G.C.E.s to certain members of the Church Street choir…as Don felt their failures in the 11 plus all those years ago and their unsuccessful attempts to gain SOME sort of qualification perhaps deserved a helping hand to eliminate the unnecessary comments from the educated grammar school boys on the stage….so Don made them a G.C.E.

…the first presentation was to Ronnie and Chrissie (being the first joint G.C.E. ever) for Ronnie’s impression of Roy Orbison…and Chrissies impression of Kylie Minogue……

…and the second presentation was an O level in chatting while the bands were on and was gratefully accepted by Ernie (baritone in the Church Street Choir)….so now when Don shouts out “hands up who’s got a G.C.E.” they can proudly join in.

Well done everyone another great night….see you next week

28th February 2018…..it was a VERY cold night…..we had been warned about the atrocious weather due to “The Beast From The East”….no…NOT Frankie “Big Boy” it was a blizzard from Russia…..but despite this a bunch of our regulars braved it and turned up ready to give it large……In the absence of Steve and Texas Tony there was a re-shuffle bandwise….Frank opened with Eric…Gerry..and Andy…..followed by Nick…Eric…. Pete…Andy…and Eddie….with Don Deggsy and Tony rounding off the night…..another great night of rock and roll….that’s our answer to Russia !!!!…..again well done everyone see you next week without your duffle coats…..godd job we’re ‘ard !!!

21st February 2018……Despite a very cold evening our followers turned up ready to rock and it was nice to see some new faces…also it was a full house on the stage…nice to see Nick back from his recent off colourness…and Texas Tony was back with his 10 gallon hat…not forgetting the return of Sir Eric who we think had been down to the Palace on business …apparently it has been leaked that he has been backing Frankie “Big Boy”….her majesty was NOT amused…and it was nice to see Karl Terry (the nicest bloke on the planet) who popped in with some of his German pals….

…Frankie,Eric,Andy and Gerry were followed by Nick,Eric,Andy and Eddie….followed by Texas Tony,Steve,Pete and Andy….rounded off by Don,Deggsy and Tony….do we rock or what !!…..well done everyone…another classic night.

14th February 2018……Valentines Day and there was a lot of love in the air as the supporters turned up in their droves to have a bit of rock and roll and romance (well one out of two aint bad)….the night was opened as always with Frankie “Big Boy” Jay performing his usual set from the 60s……the 1860s that is and Deggsy stood in on bass for the absent Sir Eric who allegedly had a chest infection (but we know he had a royal appointment at the Palace)….joined by Gerry and Andy…..Nick and Texas Tony were also absent so Don did a spot with Pete and Steve and Andy….the night was rounded off with Don…Deggsy and Stu Jones who stood in for the absent Tony….I hope this lot bring their sick notes next week….as always it was a great night with the crowd well up for it….see you all next week when we will rock it up again.

7th February 2018…..another good turnout by our wonderful supporters….and we welcomed our new drummer Andy who settled in straight away (not that he had any choice)…great drumming mate…

…we were a bit shorthanded musicianwise so Deggsy joined Gerry and Andy to open the night with Frankie ….followed by Don and Steve who joined Andy and did Nick’s set in his absence…including a blast from Eddie….the night being rounded off by Don…Deggsy…Stu (standing in for Tony A.)…and Frank fingers who came along with his keyboard…all good stuff as always….well done everyone…see ya next week.

After 16 years of supporting the organisation with his drumming and setting up of the equipment without missing one week Tony Cavanagh has decided to call it a day…

The Cheshire Cats would like to thank you for you loyal input over the years and wish you all the very best for the future.

31st January….it was a cold windy night but that didn’t put off our regulars who turned up as always ready for some action……the night was opened up by Frankie “Big Boy” Jay who was backed by Sir Eric on bass and Andy on drums making his debut on our stage…and making a great job of it…

…in the absence of Nick who is not been too well Don stepped in to join Sir Eric and Colin Middlesborough who kindly came along to fill the gap behind the drums…

….it was then time for the guest band “NoName” who did a great set as usual…great sound and harmonies….always nice to see you lads….

……then out of the blue Tony Aldridge appeared with his personal set of drums…

…he was instantly dismissed with the help of a few ex marines who were at a meeting in the next room….only to re-appear 10 minutes later WITHOUT his drums….he then joined Don and Deggsy for the final spot of the evening…

…another classic night with the crowd and The Church Street Choir in fine voice (with a few exceptions)….well done everyone see you all next week and we’ll do it all again…Rock On!!

24th January….another good night with all the regulars…next week guest band NoName so don’t be late….rock on !!!!

….you are more than welcome…it makes what we do all worthwhile….nice to know we make a difference…..it was a good turnout as the regulars turned up ready to bop….

Gerry…Frankie “Big Boy”…and Tony started the night with their usual musical history lesson….golden hits from the Tudor period…

….followed by Eric…Nick and Tony who wasted no time in getting their Mojo working…

…it was then on the road again with Pete…Texas Tony…Tony C….and Steve….with their selection of country classics……”Wagons Ho!!”

…another great night was rounded off by Don…Tony A…..Frank….and Deggsy….pure unadulterated rock and roll…..well done everyone here’s to a great 2018….if you want a good night you know where we are….come along and join the gang.

******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

13th December…..it was the annual Christmas party and as always it was a full turnout…

…all the lads were on form delivering the usual high density rock and roll as they have done throughout the year….here they are from top to bottom…Tony..Pete..Steve..Frank..Tony C..Gerry..Nick..Eric..Eddie..Don.. Deggsy and TonyA………another great social year with the crowd all enjoying each others company and the bands…well…sort of….that’s rock and roll!!!………well done lads….you do a great job.

On 8th of December Don Woods and Phil Moy were delighted to present a cheque for £3000 on behalf of all the musicians and supporters of The Cheshire Cats to our local children’s hospice Claire House…the cheque was accepted by Loren (who gave us a mince pie each)…..this is what we are all about…well done to everyone involved…it’s nice to make a difference….and we will continue to do so.

6th December….cold out side but things were heating up in the dancehall as the regulars removed their coats and prepared for some action…..

Frankie “Big Boy” Jay opened the proceedings with his trio…some of his songs being in Latin as they were so old….he was followed by Eddie who took Nick’s spot in his absence…aided by Don on lead…Tony on drums..and Sir Eric London on bass….then it was time for Texas Tony complete with stetson to get on the road again…

…backed by Steve on bass…Pete on steel and Tony on drums it was back to the old wild west….the night was rounded off by Don…Deggsy…and Stu who stood in on drums for Tony A……

the crowd staying well past their bedtimes to rock the night away….but for one person it was a special night….Reg (vital member of the Church Street Choir) was called up to the stage and presented with…wait for it….a G.C.E. for his hand jive in the recent film starring our supporters (click on “About Us” at the top of the page)…Don felt he deserved at least ONE positive exam result in his life…he can now converse with the grammar school gentlemen on the stage (or so he thinks)
